Celebs Who Vape
The electronic cigarette trend is making its way through Hollywood. Many celebrities, from actors to singers to athletes, have taken up the habit, and some like Dave Navarro even use it to stop smoking traditional cigarettes. You can see pictures of celebrities vaping while riding bikes, on trains, or during award shows. Can you guess who the biggest celebrity vapers are? Vaporcade knows!
Leonardo DiCaprio and Friends
Leo doesn’t hide the fact that he vapes. In fact, he’s been photographed many times with his electronic cigarette. A photographer snapped a photo of him cycling, and from a distance, it looked like he was smoking a cigarette at the same time. However a zoomed in view showed that he was just enjoying his vaporizer. Others on the set of Django Unchained also claim Leo enjoyed vaping during the filming of that movie.
Leo and actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus were puffing on e-cigarettes inside the Golden Globe award show at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles in 2014. At first glance, it looked as if the two were disregarding the two-decade long smoking ban but upon closer inspection, they were vaping perfectly legally.
At the 40th anniversary of the popular television show Saturday Night Live, actress/singer Miley Cyrus expressed her confusion when Leo wouldn’t pass his vape to her for a puff. While she didn’t ask him for a drag, she thinks it’s proper vaping etiquette to pass the vape around.
In the movie The Tourist with co-star Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp vapes his e-cig on a train in Europe. This scene demonstrates to the public that e-cigs actually don’t burn tobacco but vapor, so it’s not as dangerous as second-hand tobacco smoke. Johnny Depp is a long-time smoker of real cigarettes, but now that he’s tried the electronic version out on set, will he switch to vaping?
The public has criticized Britney in the past for smoking tobacco cigarettes with her kids right next to her, so she is the next celebrity famous for making the switch to electronic cigarettes. Maybe her switch from cigarettes to vaporizers is because some people say second-hand vapor lowers the risk of potential toxins more than second-hand smoke? Whatever the reason, Britney is on the band wagon. Kevin Federline, Britney’s ex-husband and father of her children, has also made the switch to electronic cigarettes.
Charlie Sheen is famous for being the bad boy that doesn’t care about his health. He throws caution to the wind and his drug, alcohol, and marital problems are well-known. On his Violent Torpedo of Truth Tour, he faced fines for lighting up real cigarettes in many of his venues. The obvious but surprising solution was that Charlie switched to e-cigarettes! He now even has his own brand of e-cigs, Nicosheen.
Katherine Heigl was one of the first celebrities to show off her electronic cigarette on the David Letterman Show in 2010. She started smoking at 25 years old and told him on the show that she was able to quit smoking with her new vaping habit. She vaped on the show and even got David Letterman to try it. She stressed that she doesn’t endorse smoking, but you get the hand motions, nicotine, and smoking feel in a healthier way with a vaporizer.
However, a week after Katherine appeared on the David Letterman Show talking about vaping, public health advocates condemned her saying that e-cigs have never been a proven, effective way to stop smoking. E-cig critics would prefer Katherine not promote e-cigs to quit smoking and stick to proven methods herself. However, she still vapes.
David De Gea
Peak physical fitness is extremely important for athletes to compete to the best of their abilities against the best in the world. It’s difficult to find anyone in the sports world who smokes or vapes, but Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is one of the few to show off his e-cigarette. It may be the only time he’s ever vaped, but he proves that e-cigs don’t stop you from being at the top of your game.
Murray Kessler, CEO of a Lorillard Tobacco
Businessinsider.com reports that Murray Kessler, CEO of a tobacco company, unapologetically took a puff of his e-cig at the New York Stock Exchange in 2013. This goes to show that even tobacco bigwigs are making the switch to e-cigarettes to be able to smoke indoors.
This former Deputy Prime Minister and British Liberal Democrats politician is a more recent vaping convert. He mentioned on LBC radio that after years of struggling, he finally was able to stop smoking traditional cigarettes in favor of vaping. His flavor of choice is blueberry.
Phil, Josh, and Jake Harris
Phil Harris was famous for The Deadliest Catch. Sadly, he died in 2010 from a stroke caused by his heavy smoking habit. His three sons have switched to e-cigarettes to quit their own bad habits. They even promote e-cigs to help others with the same problem.
At 65 years old, singer and songwriter Tom Petty grew up during an era where drinking, smoking, and doing drugs were common because people either didn’t know or ignored the effects. Lately he has left his wilder days behind for a more health-conscious life, giving up traditional smoking for e-cigarettes.
Lindsay Lohan is infamous for making questionable decisions back in the day, but one of the things she did right was switching from cigarettes to e-cigarettes. Her dad sent her an e-cig starter kit to take the first step toward quitting smoking tobacco cigarettes. We have Mr. Lohan to thank for helping Lindsay get started on e-cigs and showing the world that vaping is a better alternative.
Celebrities are jumping on the vaping craze and aren’t afraid to show off their new vaporizers in public. Many celebrities have started vaping to try to kick the traditional cigarette habit. Others vape so they can smoke inside. And still others are standing for a good cause and hoping to save lives from cancer-causing tobacco. Since vaporizers came on the market, they’ve caught their fair share of positive and negative media. But as they say in show business, no publicity is bad publicity!
